Three formats of cricket and major tournaments
Before understanding cricket betting markets, it helps to know the formats, because the approach to betting differs for each one.
T20: The shortest format — each team plays only 20 overs. Results shift quickly, making T20 the most popular format for live betting. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and IPL are both played in this format. Bangladesh Tigers matches in the T20 World Cup generally see the highest betting activity.
ODI (One Day International): A 50-over match. The pace is a bit slower, but there is more scope for wins and losses by large margins. Total runs and innings-based markets are particularly interesting here.
Test: A five-day match. A draw is a possible result, so the odds structure is different. In addition to match winner, markets for series winner and margin-based bets are also available.
baj has markets open for international matches, ICC tournaments, BPL and IPL. Football and other sports are available too, but cricket is the first choice among Bangladeshi bettors.
Football and other sports
Football betting is available alongside cricket. In football three outcomes are possible — home win, away win and draw — so the odds structure differs from T20 cricket. In limited-overs cricket there is generally no draw, so markets split directly between the two teams.
baj popular betting markets — how each one works
Each market has its own characteristics. Six markets are explained briefly below.
Match Winner
SimplestChoosing which of the two teams will win. In T20 and ODI there are only two outcomes, so it is straightforward. Example: either Team A wins or Team B wins — if the team you bet on wins, you win.
Toss Winner
Quick ResultA bet on which team wins the toss before the match starts. The result is known within minutes. This is especially popular with those who do not want to wait through an entire match.
Top Batsman
Innings-BasedA bet on which batsman will score the most runs in the match. This lets you focus on an individual player's performance rather than the team's overall result.
Total Runs Over / Under
Runs-BasedThe bookmaker sets a runs line (e.g. 320 runs). You decide whether the total runs scored in the match will be above that number (over) or below it (under). Betting over is popular on batting-friendly pitches.
Method of First Wicket
Specialist MarketA bet on how the first wicket will fall — bowled, caught, run out, etc. This is mainly popular with bettors who analyse bowling in detail.
Multi Bet (Multiple Selections)
High ReturnMultiple match results are combined into a single bet. If all selections are correct the return is much higher, but if even one is wrong the entire bet is lost. The multi bet calculation is covered in detail in the odds section below.
How to read odds — three formats
baj generally displays odds in decimal format, but it is useful to understand fractional and American formats as well. All three formats express the same probability — only the way they are written differs.
| Format | Odds for Team A to win | Result (৳200 bet) |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 2.50 | Return if win ৳500 (profit ৳300) |
| Fractional | 3/2 | Same result |
| American | +150 | Same result |
Example 1: Team A's odds to win are 2.50 decimal. With a ৳200 bet, if Team A wins the total return is ৳500 (৳300 profit + ৳200 stake back); if Team A loses, ৳200 is lost.
Example 2: Favourite Team B's odds are 1.25 decimal (fractional 1/4, American −400). With a ৳200 bet, if Team B wins the return is ৳250 (profit of only ৳50). American minus odds mean — how much you need to stake to win 100 units.
How returns are calculated on a multi bet
In a multi bet, the odds of each selection are multiplied together to get the combined odds. That combined odds figure is then multiplied by the stake to get the potential return.
Multi bet example
Three selections — odds 1.60, 1.70 and 1.90. Combined odds: 1.60 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 5.17 (approx). On a ৳100 bet, if all three are correct the return is ৳517. But if even one selection is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost.
Handicap and Over/Under
In handicap markets, one team is given an artificial advantage or disadvantage to make the bet more even. In over/under, there is no question of which team wins or loses — only the total run count matters. For these two markets, understanding the outcome is enough; you do not need to calculate stake and return separately.
LIVE In-play betting — odds change when a wicket falls
In live betting you can place bets while the match is in progress. In cricket, every wicket, every big shot or maiden over changes the odds instantly. This is what makes live betting most suited to cricket.
As an example: Team A's odds to win at the start of the match were 2.10. If they lose three wickets in the first powerplay, those odds might move to 3.50, while the opposition's odds shorten. As a bettor, you can watch these changes and decide when to act.
A stable internet connection is important for live betting because odds update very quickly. Using the baj App to track the match score is helpful.
- After a wicket, the market briefly suspends and reopens with new odds
- The over/under market sees the most movement during the death overs
- You can place bets while watching the live score
Some practical tips for cricket betting
Betting is entertainment — there is no guarantee of profit. Keeping the following in mind will improve the experience.
Build knowledge in one market
Rather than betting across all markets at once, start by thoroughly understanding just one — such as match winner.
Set a budget
Decide in advance how much you will bet per match and try not to go beyond that limit.
Stay aware of pitch and weather conditions
Betting over is generally more discussed on batting-friendly pitches. If rain is likely, the match result becomes uncertain.
Avoid rushing in live betting
Making decisions under pressure because odds are moving fast can be a mistake. Wait for the situation to settle a little before deciding.
Keep selections low in multi bets
The more selections you add, the lower the chance of all of them being correct. Keeping it to three or four is advisable.
Play responsibly
Betting is for entertainment, not as a source of income. Reading the responsible gaming guidelines can help you set limits.

baj Login — Sign in to your account nowBetting exchange — what is back and lay betting
On a traditional sportsbook you bet against the bookmaker. On a betting exchange you can bet against other bettors.
BACK betting: Betting that a team or outcome will happen. Example: if you BACK Team A to win with ৳500 — if Team A wins at odds of 2.50, you profit ৳750 minus commission; if Team A does not win, ৳500 is lost.
LAY betting: Betting that an outcome will not happen — meaning you act as the bookmaker. If you LAY Team A for ৳500, your liability is ৳750 (৳500 × 1.50); if Team A does not win, you receive ৳500 (minus commission); if Team A wins, you pay out ৳750.
Commission applies on exchange markets, so winnings are slightly reduced. However, better odds than a standard sportsbook can often be found.
